We worked on the construction side in this finca that's going to be totally renovated. Rob (an Englishman) and his Colombian wife Franscisca recently bought this villa next to the lake to transform it into a bed and breakfast. We helped (de)constructing the mansion. From destroying walls and floors to repairing the roof and gardening. You name it, we did it.
We still got the time during our free time to take a look at the biggest rock in Colombia (200m high granite stone), to visit the picturesque small city Guatape and to participate in a boat tour along the lake. The work itself was exhausting and after finishing our duty, we mostly cooked, read books in bed and fell asleep very early.
Rob and Franscisca provided us on daily basis with fresh food and even cooked for us tasty lentile burgers the last evening. It was very interesting to get a glimpse in their lifestyle and to contribute our little part to their dream.
Our lovely mansion next to the lake. |
A lot of balconies, paths and a Jacuzzi. |
Our view on the lake. |
´The new fireplace will be rebuilt. |
Behind a strong man.... |
...stands an even stronger woman. (This hole will soon be transformed into steps leading to the dressing room). |
Before the work.... |
...after the work. |
Visiting Peñol Viejo while beeing very tired. |
Getting rid of the fallen leaves. |
The new gardener... |
...with heavy artillery :) |
Taking care of the palm trees (with dangerous thorns) |
Sour as a citron! Work doesn't always make fun ;) |
But it always feels good when it´s done! |
Like in the Wild West: Attach your horse in front of the saloon and grab a cold 'cerveza.' |
The pictures on the front walls in Guatape describe often the profession of the people who live(d) here. |
Colourful houses in Guatape. |
The ruins of the 'summer residence' of Pablo Escobar next to the lake (a hundred meters away from our finca) |
El Peñon de Guatape: La Piedra, a more than 200m high monolith between El Peñol and Guatape.

Stella changed the broken bricks and cleaned the rain gutter.... |
...while sitting on the rooftop of the world. |
Meanwhile under the roof the work slowly progresses. |

After the work's done, we spend a lovely evening with Rob and Franscisca. |
...and enjoyed a tasty Casillero de Diablo Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon from Chile. |
